A few quick introductory remarks seem to be in order: These pages are dedicated to the FIRST truly portable computer - The TRS-80 Model 100. No matter how much we loved to hate Radio Shack, many of us spent hours haunting their stores, buying product and then working with that product day after day (after day). Back in late 1982, we got our first home computer: a TRS-80 Color Computer. It didn't take long for us to overwhelm the system and it was upgraded (with drives, more memory, a modem) and finally we added a second system - a TDP-100 (a CoCo in disguise). In 1984 I went to work as a salesman for Radio Shack and that Christmas my father and I both picked up 32k Model 100s. At that time, we only had the tape system but it wasn't long before we picked up a variety of peripherals for them: TPPD (Tandy Portable Disk Drive - 100k 3.5'' disks, barcode reader, printers, etc). By 1986 I ended my ''career'' with Radio Shack and moved on to a local college. There the 100 proved to be highly useful with doing research, taking notes and even doing the initial editing for almost all of my pascal course. I used to write the source code in the text editor then, upon reaching home, would upload (yup, at a whopping 300 baud) to the college's mini-vax, compile the program, test it and then logoff. The 100 was replaced by a Toshiba T1000 in 1988 as my demands for spreadsheet work (and programming in pascal) outstripped the resources of the 100. I've kept my unit packed away for a number of years - dragging it out and dusting it off in the fall of 2000. I was extremely surprised to power up the unit and discover it was still functional. This unit has proven to be highly robust and endures to this day. Its been a word processor, data collector, a programming tool, a terminal and a variety of other uses. I look forward to this second decade of usage on this machine and many more years of service from it.
